ECEP Updates

October 2016 Update

Hi all – so many opportunities for Families with Young Children are on the calendar at Temple Sinai, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

THE ICE CREAM TRUCK WILL BE AT TEMPLE SINAI! Come to the Temple on Tuesday evening, September 13th, anytime between 6:30pm and 7:30pm, to grab a free ice cream, reconnect with old friends and hang out with new ones! All are welcome – be our guest!

Just 10 days later, join us on Friday, September 23rd for our first Tot Shabbat of the new (school) year. The service will begin at 5:30 pm and will be followed by a light dinner and activity in the social hall. We’ll start the year off with pizza and salad (and dessert, of course), but don’t get too comfortable with that menu. We’ll be changing it up throughout the year – opportunities to sponsor a Tot Shabbat service and/or dinner are available, and menu suggestions are always welcome! Please RSVP by clicking here to let us know that you will celebrate with us. Also, please note that we usually print the sign-in sheet on Wednesday afternoon, so if you RSVP after that time, we ask that you add your name to the bottom of the sheet so that we know that you were here. And no need to eat and run – stay for a Wine & Cheese reception and our beautiful Friday night Shabbat service immediately following Tot Shabbat.

Looking for ways to welcome the New Year (5777)? The Temple Sinai community has opportunities for all ages and all interests. Join us in kicking off the Rosh Hashanah festivities with honey tastings at Kings in Short Hills -- Friday afternoon, September 23rd from 3:30 – 5:00 pm or Monday morning September 26th from 10:30am – 12:00 noon. The community observations continue with our Children’s Services on Rosh HaShanah (Monday, October 3rd) and Yom Kippur (Wednesday, October 12th) at 2:30 pm. We’ll be singing, dancing, and saying prayers in a 30-minute, family-friendly service for children ages 8 and below (and the adults who love them). No tickets or RSVP required – everyone is welcome to take part.

Finally, reserve Tuesday evening, October 18th for a family Sukkot celebration – Pizza in the Hut – and Saturday evening, November 5th for Tot Havdalah. Look for more information (and a link to RSVP) in the October “Families with Young Children” email blast.

September 2015 Update

Hi all – as the summer draws to an end, we are busy planning a new year’s worth of activities for families with young children. Check out the Save the Date box, and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or with suggestions of what you might like to see and do at Temple Sinai this year. We always welcome your input.

We are excited to start a new year of Tot Shabbat and Tot Havdalah. Our first Tot Shabbat will be Friday, September 11th. The service will begin in the chapel at 5:30 pm – immediately after the service, we will head upstairs (yes, a new location!) for a bite to eat and an activity for the children. What is the “bite to eat?” We’d like your opinion. Should we continue with a light pizza dinner? Or, are you feeding your children at home and would prefer fruit, vegetables and dessert? Please click here to RSVP and/or to share your thoughts on Tot Shabbat food! As always, all are welcome – feel free to invite a friend!

The following week, please join us for our Children’s High Holy Day Services, geared toward children in second grade and younger (and their families). Our Children’s Services take place at 2:30 pm on Rosh Hashanah (Monday, September 14th, 2015) and on Yom Kippur (Wednesday, September 23, 2015). The services are family-friendly and include songs, blessings, and an interactive dramatic story or puppet show. Services are open to everyone and do not require tickets or Temple membership. No RSVP necessary.

For those of you with toddlers, we are happy to announce that we will be running both our Toddler & Me class (for children ages 12-28 months accompanied by an adult) and our Toddlers Together class (a transition class for children who will turn 2 years old by March 31, 2016), starting in September. Details and registration materials for Toddler & Me and Toddlers Together are attached and are also available on our website. We also have limited space in some of our Early Childhood Education Program (ECEP) classes. Please call the ECEP office (908-273-4921, x 31) or email for availability. Check out our Facebook page for a peek at what we have to offer.

Finally, for families with Kindergarten-aged children, I’d like to recommend two wonderful programs to be offered at Temple Sinai this fall. Please read the brief description below from Patti Kahn, Director of our K-12 program – one of these could be perfect for you.

“Temple Sinai Religious School is expanding its Kindergarten offerings! In addition to our outstanding weekly Kindergarten class with creative teacher Brenda Freeman (Sundays, 8:30-10:30am), we are also offering an alternative 7-session (7 Sundays ‘sprinkled’ through the year, 8:30-10:00am) Kindergarten program, with Patti Kahn as the lead teacher. Both K programs offer wonderful Jewish learning activities and experiences for students and families. Your choice!”

Please watch for program descriptions and registration forms from Patti (Patti@templesinainj.org), on the way this week!

Enjoy the remainder of your summer, and we hope to see you soon! We’ve missed you!
