"Jews in the New Golden Age of Television"
Nora Lee Mandel
“The New Golden Age of Television” began January 1999 with “The Sopranos”, when TV fiction writers and directors started breaking boundaries with anti-heroes, sex, violence, diversity, and daring subjects, starting on premium cable, then influencing the medium and audiences everywhere. They also brought new Jewish characters to the small screen, from “Entourage” to “Girls”, “Glee” to “Big Bang Theory”, and more. Spoiler alert: how post-millennial TV does – or does not-- challenge stereotypes to be good for the Jews or bad for the Jews.Nora Lee Mandel is a member of New York Film Critics Online and the Alliance of Women Film Journalists. Her film and television reviews have appeared on http://www.film-forward.com and http://filmfestivaltraveler.com/, in Lilith magazine, and the New Hampshire Jewish Reporter. Lunch at 1:15pm and Presentation at 1:45pm A donation for lunch of $5.00 for Temple Sinai Members ($10.00 for non-members) is requested. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by November 19, 2014 Temple
